Fruitful English Corner Theme Month Activities
Hosted by the School of Education, the English Corner is dedicated to providing a platform for everyone to practice oral English, share ideas and make friends. It is held regularly every Thursday afternoon. Everyone talks to each other in English on the open space west of the Building One, or debates on the topic of the day. Among them are students from SISU as well as students from other universities in Songjiang. There are also junior high school students and adults in suits. Regardless of age and occupation, everyone is immersed in a warm atmosphere of communication.
In response to everyone's enthusiasm, the English Corner has also launched a variety of activities. We organized the flea market in cooperation with other departments of the Student Union, and launched a charity sale with the charity community. Our foreign teachers were also invited to give impromptu speeches. Recently, the English Corner Theme Month Activities were successfully held lasting from April 16 to May 14.
1. Lei Feng Spirit Activities
This English Corner Theme Month Events embarked on evoking and passing down the spirit of Lei Feng.
Today's society is a contradiction in the development of modern style and the preservation of traditional customs. With the development of the times, the material living standards have gradually improved, and people's moral values have also weakened. In reality, we are not only observing society, but also changing society. We have seen that this era is constantly urging people to flow through material desires and chasing fame and fortune, but the traditional virtues and wisdom of the older generation are being carefully guarded and passed down by the contemporary. As a Chinese, promoting the charm and advantages of our own traditional cultures is our common responsibility and must not be discarded.
In this activity, the participating students and teachers expressed their opinions. They focused on how to redefine the spirit of Lei Feng in the moment, and how to take the essence to make it fit more smoothly into our society.
In a nutshell, the charm of Lei Feng lies in its willingness to help others. The value of Lei Feng’s spirit lies in his warm heart. He is a very ordinary person, and he always exudes a kind of unpretentious brilliance. And this brilliance is of eternal value.
In fact, in our economic era, it is even more necessary for Lei Feng’s “fool” spirit and “nail” spirit to help others as the basis of happiness. We advocate learning the spirit of Lei Feng, not only asking people to do one or two good deeds, but also asking themselves to be a caring and civilized people in the new era.
2. Craftsman spirit and innovation consciousness
The spirit of craftsmanship is the spirit of craftsman's excellence in their products. They pursue the perfection of the details of the works. In today's mechanized production method and Internet industries, people are increasingly pursuing the scale and mass production of products. The workers in the workshops repeat the same action, although the improvement of production efficiency can also promote the growth of economic benefits. However, these products are less culturally and spiritually concise. The “artisan spirit” advocated today is to inject innovation and vitality into the products.
The National Education English Corner closely follows the frontier issues of the times. As soon as this topic is released, it has won everyone's praise.
Many people have a one-sided understanding of craftsmen. They believe that they are obedient, and they are obsessed with ancient techniques. The slow-working and meticulous production methods can no longer adapt to this era of efficiency and effectiveness. In fact, handicrafts are the crystallization of the wisdom of the working people, the precious spiritual wealth, and an important manifestation of the pride of Chinese culture. There is a historical responsibility for its inheritance.
The spirit of craftsmanship is not old-fashioned. It is the process of continuously creating new crafts and new technologies on the basis of traditional crafts. 3. Silver Valley Legend & The Great Craftsman
In the latest week, the editors of English Corner follow the spirit of craftsmanship and the spirit of innovation closely and recommend two films that allow everyone to think more deeply about the relationship between the two spirits- Silicon Valley Legend and The Great Craftsman.
In fact, innovation is also an extension of the craftsmanship. We always say that creating a brand name entails a brand culture, craftsmanship, exquisiteness, innovation. Therefore, both the craftsmanship spirit and the innovative spirit are interrelated. Its greatest purpose is to improve the quality and efficiency of the products so that everyone is satisfied and the brand can be established.
The English Corner will also use this kind of innovation and artisan spirit to provide you with an ingenious platform for all friends to participate in a variety of activities.
